An architect\u2019s responsibility is to simplify and bring order to disorder through space and mass\u2014not to obscure, complicate, or over-frame the moments in which we temporarily capture the complex and divine forces of nature.<\/p>\n

In this project, we have been fortunate to employ a platonically shaped void as a key organizing principle, and we have high hopes for its success.<\/p>\n

Located in the Cilician plains of Anatolia, in the city of Adana, the project is significant within its context: for the first time, the building masses of a residential development fully enclose an urban void, creating a clearly defined spatial volume composed predominantly of softscapes. This outdoor space, reserved exclusively for residents, accommodates a wide range of activities, as illustrated in the renderings. With careful attention to the laws of civic art, the height of the residential buildings stands in deliberate counterpoint to the expansive central garden, ensuring that proportions in all three dimensions remain humane and harmonious.<\/p>\n

We have designed various outdoor urban elements specifically to give certain structures within the residential background a unique presence while avoiding any sense of hierarchical cacophony.<\/p>\n

The project offers numerous amenities and accommodations that could allow a resident to live almost entirely independent of the chaotic city beyond\u2014an advantage of particular relevance in light of the back-to-back epidemics we have recently experienced and will likely continue to face. The rooftops are prepared to house solar panels, allowing for a seamless transition to sustainable energy sources whenever residents choose to adopt them.<\/p>\n

Vehicular access to the outdoor areas is entirely restricted. The site is fully gated and secured with perimeter walls and professional security. Equally important, The Life Residences incorporates an additional layer of surveillance in the form of \u201ceyes on the courtyard\u201d from resident balconies and windows\u2014what Jane Jacobs, the architectural and urbanist theorist, termed \u201cnatural surveillance,\u201d a cornerstone of crime prevention through environmental design. Maintaining this great central space free of vehicles and parking is essential to preserving the qualities for which it was designed.<\/p>\n

Aesthetically, we hold firmly to the belief that beauty is derived from function; the two are inseparable. Not a single architectural component in this project exists solely for ornament. Even the fa\u00e7ade colors arise from a deliberate dialogue between form and function. To us, white is a profoundly rich color\u2014contrary to the notion that it is merely the absence of color. White reflects the hues of nature throughout the day: at 18:00 in summer it is perceived entirely differently than at noon. Its appearance is continually transformed by reflections from the sky, the landscape, and the surrounding environment. The beige tones on the fa\u00e7ade have a didactic role, assigned primarily to vertical circulation elements and other components that intersect perpendicularly with the main white masses of the building blocks. Our pursuit has been a timeless architectural expression\u2014one that gains value as trends emerge and fade.<\/p>\n

Every component of this development has passed through our hands as its architects\u2014from the canopy details of the poolside pavilions to the sunbeds and their semi-private wooden deck platforms across from the main pool.<\/p>\n
